THE GOOD BOY.

One would ask, who is a 'Good Boy?'

According to Egbo Harrison, To some, a good boy is one who take his studies serious,
One who is obedient,
One who has no time or bring any trouble to his family,
One who does the house shore without being asked to,
One who takes the things of God serious,
One who identify with the oppressed, the needy, render a helping hand even when not called upon,
One who render succor, etc.

Above the aforementioned, they can all be compounded to give a definition of 'A Good Boy.'

This is the story of 'The Good Boy' from Opolo.
Over 20 years ago, Opolo community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was in search of 'A Good Boy' who could see, identity, render and come to their rescue due to perennial flooding that was ravaging the community.

The situation, no doubt, was in a worst state.
A state whereby, whenever the raining season is near, dwellers, strangers and visitors wished it never come.
Goods and properties worth thousands and naira are washed and destroyed due to the rain.

Fishes, frogs and other aqua creature swims and share parlour and bedroom with humans.

Workers are restless while at the place of work whenever it rains.

These were the reoccurrences year after year until their prayers was answered and God in His infinite mercy, who can not seat in His Thrown of Mercy and watch His children suffer, sent 'The Good Boy' in the person of 'Hon. Oboku Oforji to alleviate   His people longed 'sufferings.'

Yes, 'the Good Boy Oforji' was appointed to serve his people at the LGA level as the 'Caretaker Chairman' of Yenagoa Metropolis.

Saddled with so much responsibilities and obligations, he put it upon himself to first identify with his people before facing anywhere else.

He initiated a Drainage project in Opolo community. His own community. Taking the pivotal phrase that says: "Charity Begins at Home" to heart.
A project which the whole community celebrated. Celebrated not because it affected the upper classes, but because it affected the common man.

No wonder it took some elders in the community to wear the cap of responsibility to advice  and to keep encouraging 'The Good Boy' and the workers never to relent.

'The Good Boy' spurred by the advices and encouragement, pushed further like the proverbial saying "that a man who is walking on a lonely path in the forest, escorted by a Lion, don't have to be afraid of an Antelope running beside him."

In less than two months, 'The Good Boy' completed the project.

Today, permit me  to say that 'Opolo is the best community to stay.'
The people now notice less or no flooding no matter heavy the rain could be.

Bailing of houses instead of 'ponds' is now a thing of the past.
They can now sleep with their two eyes closed.
They can now be at their places of work with their minds at rest.
'The Good Boy' indeed has done well and the people are pleased with him.

Let me therefore use this purview to call on the leadership of Opolo community to be alive to its responsible in seeing that the drainage is cleaned monthly as some persons has taken it as a refuge dump of all sorts.

A proactive Sanitary Committee should be set up to monitor and to ensure that each and everyone's front is clean at all times in order to create free flow of water most especially, this time of the raining season.

As a proud son of Opolo, I enjoin other success lovers to celebrate this 'Good Boy' of ours and wish him well.
#Oforji, Skillfully Different!!!
Wouldn't you rather wish to leave in Opolo?
